Definitely open to corrective criticism took these photos of a friend of mine's pond at sunset, northeast kansas?

The second photo, you just need to make sure that part of the boat isn't in the photo. Also, maybe straighten the horizon a little. The first photo is a little too dark in the foreground and a little too busy with the trees. Love the colors in the sky!

I love the colours of the sunset (or sunrise?)! I will say, for the first picture, might be push up the shadows? It seems like a mystery about what's up front (and I really want to know the answer to that mystery!).
For the second one, I'll go against Nate, and say, I'd be more inclined to show the entire boat!

For the second photo to go off of what Nate and Sarbajit said. Showing or not showing the boat depends on the story you're trying to tell with the image. If you're looking to tell a story of you came across that spot on a boat, and are chilling and watching the sunrise and sunset, then I would say having the boat in the composition makes sense. I actually like the composition you have already. I could see a little more of the boat being included, but I like that you intentionally didn't let it dominate the composition. For the first image, I would say it feels dark and needs the shadows brought up. Personally, out of the two, I enjoy the 2nd image the most.

I will agree, the first photo is much too dark, has too much shadow. The 2nd image is so much clearer and brighter. I would love to see the whole boat or none of the boat. And if the chance to see a red boat in the foreground -that would be even more impressive.
