This week's challenge/theme is Selective Color. The image used for this post is an example of one of my images that uses the skill/technique Selective Color.
In short, for those who don't know what Selective Color is, it's essentially focusing on one color in the image and making everything else black and white.
If you participated in last week's challenge of "Color Focus" this was a direct warm-up to practicing this editing technique. So take whatever color you chose last week and continue it on to this week for an even more focused selective color photo.
This editing technique, for images, naturally causes your eye to be drawn to whatever you choose as the selective color subject.
I'm interested to see what everyone comes up with. You can post your photos and have a conversation more about the technique and your experience with it in the comments below.
A new photo challenge will be put up every two weeks on Monday.
This gives people time to see the challenge and get a chance to participate in it. That being said, you can participate in this challenge at any moment, as this thread won't be deleted at this current moment in time.

This is one of my favourite selective colour shots. We were in New York and as we walked out of Washington Square Park and looked up 5th Avenue, I knew That when I took this photo I would desaturate all the colours except yellow.
I do this with quite a lot of photos that I take. If they don't quite work when I look at them on the computer, I will desaturate all the colours to a black and white image, then add colours back in to see what works. Sometimes it is just a pure black and white photo where the magic sits, other times it is one or two colours that bring the photo to life.

This was quick and dirty but it is a selective color photo with different lighting. I will be my "hunted" photo on Monday August 10.

Another from me, and another one of my favourite selective colour shots is this moped that I photographed in Turkey. Just by desaturating all the colours then bringing orange and red back, I had a photo I really liked as all the distracting colours in the background were removed.

Here are two slightly different selective color edits from a photo I took over 2 years ago. Where do we go when we pass? Is there an afterlife? Is there a space we go to where peace and harmony exist 100%? I hope so, you know, for al of us and this fly. I find it interesting to see the textures in the fly.

It really does give the New York City vibe with the Taxi's as the choosen focus for your Selective Color subject. I'd love too see more of some your other favorite images using the Selective Color editing technique. It's interesting, to hear about your post-processing workflow as well. Sometimes I forget how different, people's post-processing workflows can be. Looking forward too seeing more of your images.

It definitely gave the subject a stronger focus than if you had just left it as the original color edit. Thank you for participating in the challenge.

@[Jacob Miller](0b63aea8-f568-4f3b-8971-fba5514a1b96), that's an interesting use of selective color. I love that it's such a close-up. Is the background created, or is that how the photo was shot? Thank you for participating in the challenge. I hope an afterlife of some sort does exist, but it's hard to say, really. All I know is our own brains don't fully accept the dying process; they will do whatever they can to survive and keep us alive even in our last moments. We all know we will die; it's just hard for us to fathom not existing anymore.

I too ponder this often. This was taken with a yellow light on the fly in a window sill. I boosted the contrast, color, and took saturation out of the fly. Thanks for your feedback. I hope their is a blessed peaceful place after our minds and hearts cease activity :)
